Biography
Rafael Martínez Moreno is a Colombian film and television director, screenwriter and producer, born in Cartagena de Indias in 1980 and trained in Madrid (TAI University School of the Arts) and New York (New York Film Academy). His debut feature, El Piedra (2018), was acquired by HBO and screened at the Mannheim-Heidelberg, Huelva (two mentions), Cairo and FICCI film festivals, receiving three Macondo Award nominations. His short film Números Redondos premiered in official competition at Zinebi 57 in Bilbao. For Netflix he has directed the series En Diciembre Llegaban las Brisas, Delirio and Ritmo Salvaje. He has also directed prime-time series for Caracol TV and RCN, Colombia’s main broadcast networks. Three of his titles have reached Netflix’s global top 10.
His advertising work includes Aeroméxico’s ‘A World Without Borders’ (Ogilvy), awarded a Bronze Lion in Film category at Cannes Lions 2019. He is a four-time grantee of Colombia’s Film Development Fund (FDC) and a two-time selectee of DreamAgo’s Plume & Pellicule screenwriting lab in Switzerland. He is currently developing his second feature, Animales Domésticos, based on the short story by Antonio García Ángel.
